POPM

POPM in general follows the principle of modularization and structures a "process" into several building blocks which are orthogonal to each other and which are referred to as "perspectives". Based on the experience gathered in several industrial and research projects, five main perspectives were identified:

* the Functional Perspective – "What has to be done?"
* the Behavioral Perspective – "When is a certain step executed?"
* the Data Perspective – "What does data come from, where does it go and what structure does it have
* the Operational Perspective – "What tools/systems are used during the execution of a step?"
* the Organizational Perspective – "Who is executing a step?"

Of course, the list of perspectives is not complete and can be extended in respect of the examined application domain. Thus, POPM can be easily adapted to different domains by providing settings. Since this extensibility is designed into the modeling paradigm, no standards are violated when changes are made.
